The Very Picture of You -
Portrait Competition
Many thanks to all of you who entered my What's Your Favourite Portrait? Competition. I had a lot of entries so it was very hard to choose, but here are the five winners who will each receive a signed copy of 'The Very Picture of You'.
-
'Sir Thomas More' by Hans Holbein the Younger.
Submitted by Ania Parenty from Singapore who loved the 'intelligence and dignity' which Holbein brought to the painting, and the admiration that he clearly had for his subject. Ania said that she could 'spend hours in front of it, looking at all the minute details which make it come so alive.
-
'Audrey Hepburn With Her Cat' by Andy Warhol
This was submittted by Yveline Marcel from Paris, who said she loved the 'simple beauty' of the picture, and Hepburn's eyes, so full of softness and humanity.
-
'Les Jeunes Filles au Piano' by Auguste Renoir
This was chosen by Marjolaine Deletang from France who said that this portrait made her want to play the piano. 'It is really lively, we can almost hear them chat or sing together. To me it is one of the most beautiful paintings ever.'
-
Del Parson's 'Christ in Red Robes'
This is not a portrait in the conventional sense - it's simply an image of Christ as Parson imagined him to be. It was chosen by Amelie Bleakley from the UK who grew up knowing this painting and says that 'for me it's a bit like an anchor, reminding me of my faith.' Amelia says that she has a copy at home and just loves looking at it.
-
'La Scapigliata' by Leonard de Vinci
Chosen by Bonnie Regan who finds the drawing 'stunningly beautiful in its simplicity. The woman's face is depicted with immense detail, yet the area around her face is in a haze.'
I'm sending each of you a signed copy of 'The Very Picture of You'.
I found it very interesting looking at all your chosen portraits and want to thank you all for entering!
