Great Escapes

Published by:
Collins & Brown July 3rd 2008

I was delighted to have been asked to contribute a short story to the Good Housekeeping Great Escapes! short story collection which will be published on July 3rd.

The collection includes stories by some of the best writers of contemporary women's fiction today - Rose Tremain, Fay Weldon, Helen Simpson, Kate Mosse, Lesley Pearse, Deborah Moggach, Nicci Gerrard and Polly Samson.

My own story, A Dress to Die For, is about a woman who runs a vintage dress shop. One day she sells a beautiful fifties prom dress to a young woman, only to discover that the dress, which she learns has had a somewhat murky past, seems to contain the ghost of its former owner...

The Times are doing a big promotion on the Great Escapes! collection, and I feel very honoured that they have chosen my story to print in their Summer Reading special, on Saturday July 5th.

The theme of vintage clothes, and the personal history which they contain, is the main theme of my next novel, 'A Vintage Affair', which will be published early in 2009. (If you'd like to read about the new novel, click on the link to the right).

Fifty pence from each copy of Great Escapes! will go to Childline, so please do buy the book for yourselves and your friends in order to try and raise as much money as possible for this very worthwhile charity. Thank you.
